FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Ed Jarrett is standing tall -- and his sandcastle is even taller. The master castle builder has broken his own record. The Guinness people have certified Jarrett's creation as the world's tallest, at 37-feet, 10-inches. Guinness World Records made the announcement yesterday, on the project that took seven weeks to build. Jerrett had a lot of help, with more than 1,500 volunteers. The giant sandcastle will be on display at Winding Trails in Farmington, Connecticut, through the end of the month.

And to think I've spent hours at the beach,  to build one just a foot high!

UNDATED (AP) — Ready for some ale and bacon ice cream? The flavor is being offered by Salt and Straw Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon. The Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco has soft-serve spicy Mexican chocolate. But marketing director Kirsten Bourne says their most popular flavor by far is salted caramel. You can also get balsamic strawberry. It's part of a move toward trendy flavors in some cities. But overall, our favorites are still vanilla and chocolate, according to the International Dairy Foods Association.

Now I like varrety, but ale and bacon?. Come on.....

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A pair of 20-something bandits are no match for a senior citizen security guard. Donald Myers says he used his military and security experience when a masked robber walked into his Muncie, Ind., pharmacy. The 78-year-old Army veteran says the masked man "meant business" and was waving a gun. Myers drew his weapon, came up behind the bandit and ordered the gunman to the ground. The Star Press reports Brian L. Franklin and Matthew A. Hale were busted by police. They're expected to face preliminary charges of armed robbery.

Alert! Be on the lookout for a missing goat in Idaho...

LEWISTON, Idaho - A western Idaho couple is concerned there might have been a kid-naaaping.

Buzz and Wilma Goertzen, of Lewiston, say their young goat has been missing for about a week and the kid's mother goat has been upset ever since.

Buzz Goertzen tells KLEW-TV their goats have gotten out before but have never been gone for such a long time.

He says the animal is friendly and would often play with kids - the human kind - as they walked past the family's property.

The missing goat is all black with white shoulders and has small horns.

Kung fu trolley dollies

Kung fu class /Europics

High flying air hostesses are being taught high kicking kung-fu skills - to deck drunk passengers who try to grope them.

The Chinese stewardesses are taking classes in deadly Wing Chun which teaches students how to knock an aggressor out cold within seconds.

Airline bosses say their flight attendants have to deal with at least three cases a week where amorous drunks try to paw them.

"It is for their own safety and the safety of other passengers that they learn how to defend themselves.

"This kung fu works best at very close range so it is ideal for a plane," said instructor Sifu Lu Heng.

Aloha! May day is lei day in's a little history:

The first Lei Day was held on May 1, 1928, and everyone in Honolulu was encouraged to wear lei. Festivities were held downtown with hula, music, lei making demonstrations and exhibits and lei making contests.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported, "lei blossomed on straw and felt hats, lei decorated automobiles, men and women and children wore them draped about their shoulders. To the city Kamehameha's statue extended a garland of maile and plumeria, which fluttered in the wind from its extended hand. Lei recaptured the old spirit of the islands (a love of color and flowers, fragrance, laughter and aloha)."

In 1929, Lei Day was made an official holiday in the territory, a tradition which was interrupted only during the years of World War II, and which continues today.

Today, we can celebrate the same spirit of laughter and Aloha with all!

Seven people -- one with serious injuries -- were transported to area hospitals, with two others seeking medical treatment on their own, he said.

Aloha!              Ouch! Did you see this in the news.........

(CNN) -- Police in Maryland are on the hunt for the perpetrator of what appears to be an April Fools' Day prank that left a man glued to a toilet at a Wal-Mart store.

If caught, the jokester who doused the seat with glue at the Elkton Wal-Mart on March 31 could face second-degree assault charges, said Lt. Matthew Donnelly of the Elkton Police Department.

Police, along with the Singerly Fire Co. and the Cecil County paramedics, were called to the scene at about 7 p.m.

There, they found the 48-year-old victim, who called for help after realizing the sticky situation he was in when he tried -- and failed -- to stand up and leave the superstore's restroom, Donnelly said.

It took responders 15 minutes to remove the victim from the stall, but they were unable to disconnect the toilet seat from his body, Donnelly said.

Instead, the victim was taken to Union Hospital of Cecil County, where the seat was detached. He left with only minor injuries to his buttocks, Donnelly said.

TUESDAY 4/5/11

Aloha!  I came across a quote from Henry David Thoreau I thought you might's one of my favorites!

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.

Docs warn about Facebook use and teen depression...

Add "Facebook depression" to potential harms linked with social media, an influential doctors' group warns, referring to a condition it says may affect troubled teens who obsess over the online site.

Researchers disagree on whether it's simply an extension of depression some kids feel in other circumstances, or a distinct condition linked with using the online site.

But there are unique aspects of Facebook that can make it a particularly tough social landscape to navigate for kids already dealing with poor self-esteem, said Dr. Gwenn O'Keeffe, a Boston-area pediatrician and lead author of new American Academy of Pediatrics social media guidelines. Lady Gaga is a quarter of a century old today. No doubt she'll celebrate in a Gaga-ian fashion, but for now her fans (aka "Little Monsters") are most interested in knowing her real name.

Over the past 24 hours, Web searches for "lady gaga real name" and "what is lady gaga's real name" have both spiked into the stratosphere. For the record, her given name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

Gaga earned her nickname in an unusual way: According to producer Rob Fusari, "(Lady Gaga) was actually a glitch; I typed 'Radio Ga Ga' in a text and it did an autocorrect so somehow 'Radio' got changed to 'Lady.' She texted me back, 'That's it.' After that day, she was Lady Gaga."

Which Occupation Should Get The Highest Salary?

Many Americans think the pay scale is out of balance.
Three out of ten people taking part in a new Rasmussen Reports believe teachers should be the highest paid professionals, while fewer than five-percent think celebrities and professional athletes deserve the most money. However, most teachers typically bring home modest five-figure salaries, while the top actors, musicians, and sports stars sign multi-million-dollar deals for their services.
Fourteen-percent think members of the military should draw the highest pay, but just nine-percent think the top wage earner should be the U.S. President -- the Commander in Chief of the armed services -- who makes 400-thousand-dollars a year. Thirteen-percent feel doctors are worthy of the biggest paychecks, and ten-percent think business leaders should be the nation's top earners.
Five-percent believe police officers are deserving of hefty compensation for their work.

It's official: the Subway sandwich chain has surpassed McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MCD - News) as the world's largest restaurant chain, in terms of units.

At the end of last year, Subway had 33,749 restaurants worldwide, compared to McDonald's 32,737. The burger giant disclosed its year-end store count in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late last month.

The race for global dominance is an important one for an industry that's mostly saturated in the U.S. High unemployment and economic uncertainty have battered the restaurant industry in the U.S., and chains are increasingly looking overseas for growth, particularly in Asia.
