St. Patty's Day treat idea for your kids!

I LOVE easy ideas.  This is right up there for a St. Patrick's day treat bag for your kids.  And I love it when someone I know comes up with the idea and I can highlight them here:).  (Although she might not remember me, but she is married to a local Richmond-ite;).

Preparing for Travel

Thursday 3/1/12

Do you have cabin fever as much as I do?

We're taking a big summer trip this year to see family we haven't seen for a couple of years and we are SO EXCITED!  But the trip makes me think of the many miles and hours of sitting in close quarters and little hands and fingers poking each other just to break up the monotany.  So I've paid a visit to one of my much loved blogs ... servingpinklemonade.blogspot.com

These two sisters have such a great idea section for homemade crafts and travel kits for kids.  So here's some of what I've been eyeing ...

Travel take along barn ...

There's a doll house one too.

Car mats ...

Marble games ...

Now if I can just pick a couple of easy ones and start now, maybe they'll actually get done in time:).

Leap Year Trivia

Wednesday 2/29/12

Happy Leap Year.  I'm all about trivia and so when I found these facts about Leap Year I had to share.  They come from a site called chiff.com.

*The Romans first designated February 29 as leap day, but a more precise formula (still in use today) was adopted in the 16th century when the Gregorian calendar fine-tuned the calculations to include a leap day in years only divisible by four - 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, etc.

*According to astrologers, those born under the sign of Pisces on February 29 have unusual talents and personalities reflecting their special status.

*As the story goes, the tradition of women romantically pursuing men in leap years began in 5th century Ireland, when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about the fair sex having to wait for men to propose. Patrick finally relented and set February 29 aside as the day set aside allowing women the right to ask for a man's hand in marriage.

The tradition continued in Scotland, when Queen Margaret declared in 1288 that on February 29 a woman had the right to pop the question to any man she fancied. Menfolk who refused were faced with a fine in the form of a kiss, a silk dress, or a pair of gloves given to the rejected lady fair. A similar modern American tradition, Sadie Hawkins Day, honors "the homeliest gal in the hills" created by Al Capp in the cartoon strip Li'l Abner.

*Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November;
All the rest have thirty-one
Save February, she alone
Hath eight days and a score
Til leap year gives her one day more.

9 months

Saturday 2/18/12

I couldn't resist posting this picture I captured of my little guy while he was flying on my knees.  Love the tongue.  My husband says that 9-months is his favorite time for babies and pictures since it's when their personality really shines.

Isn't he just a breath of fresh air:).

Valentine's Dinner:) Coconut Sticky Chicken

Wednesday 2/15/12

I've said many times before that my husband is a more adventurous cook and many times a better cook than I am,  so I've come to expect great things for special holidays.  He did not disappoint for Valentine's Dinner last night.

He asked me what I wanted and I told him I'd seen something that looked really tasty on dealstomeals.blogspot.com the other night ... Coconut Sticky Chicken.

It turned out to be so good that I must share the link today!

Classroom Valentines

Thursday 2/9/11

This is a whole new ballgame I'm dealing with ... Classroom Valentines.

It's hard not to get caught up in wanting to make really cute Valentines, especially with all of the blogs out in blogland that have 1 million and 1 ideas.  But I've vowed not to bite off more than I can chew, and to remember it's not a competition and my kids are the ones who want to do their own Valentines:).

Howevery, I found this cute idea that Skip to my Lou blogged about two years ago ... what do you think?  I know if I show my daughter this, she'll totally go for it.  So I guess now I have to decide, am I willing to commit to it?.  And if so, what am I going to come up with for my son? ;)

My new 'go-to' cooking website

I've heard of the cooking site www.melskitchencafe.com, but never made it part of my routine, but over the last couple of weeks for some reason I've gone there.  And now I'm hooked:).

If you're looking for fresh ideas from a website with a variety of recipes, this just might be for you!

How do you keep it all organized?!

One thing I've realized after having my Kindergartener's come home almost daily with artwork and projects and homework, is, you can't keep it all.

I've saved projects or pictures I thought were creative or showed academic progress, but even with all that I save, my twins are devestated if they find something in the recycle or trash.

After the papers are saved I'll put them in their closets next to their 'black books' (photos, memory book-type things ... I'm not going to go so far as to say they're scrapbooks since I'm sorely not-talented in this area).  But when I get around to the organizing, I'm afraid I'll be overwhelmed and might chuck the majority of them.  So when I saw this idea from my sister-in-law, who found it on Pinterest from a blogger, I thought, "Oh, maybe I could do this."

So here it is ... maybe it will help you too?
